"Welcome to Weightlifting Ireland, the Website of the Irish Amateur Weightlifting Association (IAWLA). The IAWLA is the governing body of Weightlifting in Ireland and is affiliated to the International Weightlifting Federation and the Olympic Council of Ireland.

Weightlifting is an amazing and highly rewarding sport that develops strength, speed and agility in athletes of all ages, shapes and sizes, both male and female. Our aim in the Irish Amateur Weightlifting Association is to raise the standard of competition both Nationally & Internationally as well as to increase participation levels in the sport across its Junior (U20), Senior and Master (35+) age groups for both Men & Women.

Weightlifting has been an Olympic sport since the inception of the modern Olympics in 1896 and now more than ever we need young athletes to start competing in this fun & rewarding sport: They will become our future Olympians."
